Five Years On

The crispest, warmest summer sun
Tempered by a breeze so sweet
Cannot herald half the loving fun
Of a day with you, my love: complete

What’s familiar often seems grow
A-weary as time goes on
Yet our love’s fresh as winter’s snow
Your heart the warmest I’ve come upon

Five years approach and I remain
Ever at your side and heart
Always close in quiet refrain
Closer even now than at love’s start

So Three Years Ago…

We moved hosting providers and I lost your database of poems. Man did I suck! But today I decided it was high time to do something about it.

So I sat down in that uncomfortable chair, scoured every last piece of media I own…and I finally found it. The one remaining backup copy of the site’s database, still containing all your poems. Now I’m taking steps to ensure they never get lost again, my sweet Kelley. I hope you’ll enjoy these again; more will be coming soon, in time for your birthday once more 🙂

Welcome to Thirty

When the sky crackled black with a boatload of stars

You were wrapped in a warm, comfy snooze

A funny thing happened, it came from afar

I saw it, I did! Thirty landed on you!

It roared and it snarled and said “What a chase!”

“This girl’s too pretty, I’m at the wrong house!”

I assured him, “Sir, this is the girl, and this is the place”

He scratched his chin, silent as a mouse

“How funny indeed, such a beautiful face”

And then I explained, the best that I could

“She has the sweetest heart ever, and the warmest of smiles”

I watched as he grinned; yes he understood

“Think I’ll stay for awhile, this should be good!”

Then he settled right in for a comfortable year

With the prettiest girl, all full of Art

It can’t get any better

Than being close to your heart!

Happy Chuckles

One day I sat and watched the sky

The clouds were all adrift in peace

Disturbed by naught but ducks and geese

I breathed and sighed and closed my eyes

And deeply drew of Earth and Air

A Day-dream of you, with thoughts so fair

I smiled and clucked and laughed a bit!

For the smiles you always bring me to

The happy chuckles and warmth of you

And what luck should happen upon me then?

When my eyes should open with smiles and stares

But the beauty of you, sweet love, right there!

All that shall remain

A simple touch upon my cheek

Warm and tender contact eliciting my smile

Loving caress that soothes my soul

My love, please hold me for awhile

And watch with me the evening sky

As the sun burns away into the night

For as its embers slowly die away I’m bathed

In the radiant warmth of your light

The sweet and tender playful eyes

That light all they look upon

You help my soul to realize

No pain can last for long

Hold me close and steel my will

Temper all that’s hard and pained

Set my heart at ease as only you can

‘Til our love’s all that shall remain!

She walks

With a confident and happy smile
A hearty, cheerful laugh
She carries herself with a simple poise
A demeanor that’s only half

Of the warmth and love that guides her soul
In the drudge of day-to-day
The true concern she shows to all
Who cross her blessed way

And the luck I know I must have found
To have met a heart so true
Gives me little fear but lots of love
E’er since the day I found you

Carried

At times I’ve felt all blown along

Along the Winds of Autumn’s song

No clear and present directation

Nor a moment’s expectation

Yet with each up and rising, burning sun

My heart’s alight and yearns for fun

Of unexpected, cheerful kind

The sort that often comes to mind

When dreaming of a girl who’s touch

So often seems ‘twould bear too much

Of love and all it’s twittering cheer

O’ warmth of laughing with you, my dear!

A Whispering Voice

As gentle winds blow through somber grass

Warm air stirs and swirls as I breathe the silky air

The soft caress of rising dawn bathes my skin twixt night and day

While emotion stirs from a place I daren’t go

The crisp and bitter crackle of birds chirping rings aloud

The aroma of warming earth fills my nostrils as a smile’s nearly born

Am I sinking in this Heaven, this warm and sweet place

Or am I cracking e’er so softly, as the emerging hatchling in its twiggy nest?

‘Awake, arise, become,’ slides warm across my ears

Like sweet illusion, a mirage just out of reach

‘Emerge, accept, embrace,’ welcomes my heart now to step free

And the smiling voice that wakes me comes in your tender whispering

Where the Art Comes From

I’ve always had an inkling for ideas deep inside

For funny little thoughts and things

I always felt that I should hide

But somehow when you’re near me, encouraging and fun

Somehow when I hear you call out “you can do it!”

I feel as if I’ve stepped into the sun

And like the clock that comes alive with music when it rings

You open up a special door I’ve rarely dared to peek

Something’s opening inside; for you my soul just sings!

Like the thunder beating out from a giant drum

I realize that just what you are, my dear

Is that place where all the Art comes from!
